Nowadays, its complex of temples, a library and museum, centred on the imperial citadel, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993. Some of the most historic monuments in Hue are the Citadel, the tomb of Emperor Minh Mang, the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc, Thien Mu Pagoda and the Hon Chen Temple.

Hue is known for not only many tombs, pagodas, temples, a library and museum which lie everywhere in and around, but also the Perfume River crosses the city. In the autumn, flowers from orchards upriver from Huế fall into the water, giving the river a perfume-like aroma, hence the soubriquet
