  • Siem Reap is located in northwest Cambodia. It is the major tourist hub in Cambodia, as it is the closest city to the world famous temples of Angkor (the Angkor temple complex is north of the city). The provincial capital is also called Siem Reap and is located in the South of the province on the shores of the Tonle Sap Lake, the greatest sweet water reserve in whole Southeast Asia.  If Cambodia is a country of contrasts Siem Reap is the embodiment of those contrasts. Despite the massive shift in its economic fortunes, Siem Reap remains a safe, friendly and pleasant town. There is an endless choice of places to stay or dine and a host of possible activities awaiting the visitor.

Angkor was the capital city of Khmer Empire flourished from approximately the 9th to 15th centuries. The city until now hides a lot of historical and cultural mysteries.Between all attractions in Angkor, Angkor Wat as being the largest religious monument in the world is the most famous one and welcomes over millions tourists each year. The temple complex covers 81 hectares and is comparable in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing. Its distinctive five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture. Angkor Thom(12 century) is the last capital of the Khmer Empire and undeniably an expression of the highest genius for structures and decoration. The South Gate with its huge statues depicting the churning of the ocean of milk, the Bayon Temple, unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara, the Phimeanakas, the Royal Enclosure, the Elephants Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King.

A master leather carver assists you as you trace your design onto the material and then carve it out; leaving behind a fascinating creature that you attach a stick to, completing the puppet effect. Your next appointment is with dancers that teach you to do a classic Cambodian dance called Aspara for women or the Giant dance for men. At the same venue, the instrumental band takes you under their wing to show you an introductory lesson on the different musical instruments used in Cambodia. During the day you also get to try a traditional meal and listen to interesting facts about the area and its ancient culture. Leave the tour with new skills and your very own shadow puppet as a priceless souvenir.
